Six weeks after rolling out four botched security patches for Outlook, Microsoft claims its fixed the bugs 鈥?and tackled three new exposures to boot  A w owala water bottle eek ago, I lamented the lack of a fix for the bad June Office security patches. On June 13, those of you with Automatic Update turned on were treated to seven different, documented bugs that persisted until today.I expected to see these patches on Tuesday, in normal cadence. For reasons that are only known to Microsoft, they waited until Thursday to release the files. The patches are rolling out now through Wind polene store ows Update. Itrsquo  still much too early to tell if theyrsquo;re going to cause more problems than they solve. Here are the patches to look for:KB 3213643mdash; Outlook 2007KB 2956078mdash; Outlook 2010KB 4011078mdash; Outlook 2013KB 4011052mdash; Outlook 2016In addition to fixing the well-documented June bugs, these four patches are all supposed to plug these security holes:CVE-2017-8571: Microsoft Office Outlook Security Feature Bypass Vulnerability CVE-2017-8572: Microsoft Office Outlook Information Disclosure VulnerabilityCVE-2017-8663: Microsoft Office Outlook Memory  HydroJug Corruption VulnerabilityHey, it only took six and a half weeks. The idea of building a $100 laptop for children in developing nations was laudable, but isolating big players such as Intel and Microsoft rather than signing them up to make it happen was a critical mistake.   In a Wall Street Journal story today, Negroponte complained about competition from Intel and Microsoft with the introduction of the Classmate. He should have seen it coming. As PC sales peak in the U.S. and Europe, polene handtaschen  students in developing nations are the future for Microsoft, Intel, and other market leaders. Did Negroponte really expect them to stand idly by while he introduced a product that would marginalize them  The failure of his program is the focus of the Journal story, aptly titled A little laptop with big ambitions: How a computer for the poor got stomped by the tech giants  subscription required .Negropontersquo  leanings toward open source and second tier processor vendor AMD may make sense in academ stanley mug ic circles, but not when yoursquo;re selling end user devices that threaten the long-term dominance of the market leaders. Of course the market leaders saw the nonprofit effort as a competitive challenge. While the assumption that one couldnrsquo;t make a $100 laptop using Intel and Microsoft products may have been true, in the end neither could the One Laptop Project.
