For as long as Amy Trigg can remember, she wanted to be a performer. Growing up in Essex, she fell in love with musical theatre and began ballet classes at five. She was born with spina bifida and did not see a single actor on stage using a wheelchair but that didnt deter her. Now 28, she has proven herself as a writer and actor with a rich, broad talent.Speaking on Zoom, Trigg is charming, funny and disarmingly warm. As a performer, she has shown a dizzying range across dance, musicals and improvised comedy. She won acclaim for her parts in the Royal Shakespeare Companys The Taming of the Shrew and Measure for Measure, starred in the rock musical Tommy, and appeared in the Waterloo dance sequence for the hit film Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, alongside Lily James and Hugh Skinner. It was intense but so hilarious, she remembers. She was one of two winners of the inaugural Womens Prize for Playwriting in 2020 and has also become a writer for the TV drama Ral stanley flask ph and Katie, which is Peter Bowkers spin-off to The A-Word. What came first, the writing or acting I knew I wanted to do something in theatre one way or another. If Im honest, I always wanted to be an actress first of all. I was prepared, I admit, to dislike Jeremy Hutchinson on principle. Here is a man whose life has been an exercise in clannish, well-connected endogamy. His mother was a Strachey, so as a child he was dandled by the grandees of the Bloomsbury group stanley uk . At Oxford he fell in love with a Bonham Carter, while his sister sagely married a Rothschild. Hutchinsons first wife was the actress Peggy Ashcroft; his second had been previously courted 鈥?not very ardently, I imagine 鈥?by Cecil Beaton and Edward Heath. He spent the war on a destroyer commanded by Lord Mountbatten, and when it was sunk David Leans film In Which We Serve turned the defeat into a triumph for patrician stoicism.Inherited advantages were topped up by windfalls. A friend who died left Hutchinson a Monet; 10 minutes after聽taking delivery of the canvas, he sold i termo stanley t in Mayfair and snapped up a house in Hampstead with the proceeds. He currently lives in Sussex, in a former rectory of magical beauty which he paid for by disposing of an island he just happened to own in the backwaters of unbeautiful Essex. A tree聽in his garden was a gift from Leonard Woolf. And to add to his offences against the humble human average, he has survived, physically hale and intellectually acute, to the age of 100.Given my automatic animus, you can imagine how confusing stanley termosas it was to be charmed into surrender by Thomas Grants traversal of Hutchinsons long career as a QC.
