Broad St.City Council members Jim Wood and Kenny Lee voted against the authorization.Vice Mayor Jim Wood said he could not support the purchase of the building for several reasons. I believe the cost is too much,  Wood said.  And I also dont agree with payment terms. The purchase price is $232,300 over the assessed value. And I know how real estate is, I know youre going to pay more, but I think thats a little bit on the too much side. Wood said he stanley quencher  thinks before council spends the money, the building should be offered to the publ stanley website ic, and that should determine the actual value and potentially help the city avoid paying more than the building is worth. The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations Appomattox Field Office is investigating a fatal fire in Augusta County. The fire occurred around 10 p.m. Monday  Nov. 26  at a trailer in the 800 block of Stuples Hollow Road in Craigsville.Once the Augusta County Fire Department was able to extinguish the flames, a deceased male was located inside the residence. He has been identified as Donald L. Meeks, 61, of Craigsville, Va. His remains were transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Roanoke for examination and autopsy.The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation.
